01 The short version
Kopjex has no account and no login. We never see your itineraries, your target species, your packing lists, your journal, or your guide name.
Two things do leave your device. First, when you choose to use an AI Scout feature, the specific photo or message you submit is sent to OpenAI to produce the result (see section 4). Second, our analytics provider AppsFlyer receives a limited set of technical and marketing identifiers used to measure installs and attribution (see section 6).
Nothing you create inside the app is ever included in either transfer.
02 What stays on your device
Everything you build in Kopjex — trips, day-by-day drive plans, saved routes, personal target lists, checklists, unlocked trophies, saved sightings, ranger chats, your guide name, and your preferences — is written to a private file inside the app's own storage sandbox. It does not sync or back up to us. Removing the app deletes all of it at once, including any photos saved with your journal sightings.
03 Reference content and the planner
The parks, wildlife, seasons, and ready-made itineraries in Kopjex are bundled with the app. Reading that library and generating an itinerary happen entirely on the device and require no connection — no request is sent anywhere for those.
04 AI Scout features and third-party processing
The Scout tab offers two AI features: scanning a photo of an animal or a track to identify it, and chatting with a ranger assistant. When you use them, the content you provide — the photo you scan or the message you type — is sent to OpenAI and processed by their model (gpt-4o-mini) on their servers to generate the response. This is a transfer of data to a third party.
Only that submitted content is sent; your trips, targets, checklists, journal, guide name, and other saved data are never included. Before either feature runs for the first time, Kopjex shows a consent screen explaining this, and it will not connect until you agree. If you never use Scout, nothing from these features is ever transmitted.
OpenAI's handling of the data it receives is governed by OpenAI's own privacy policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
05 Notifications
If you turn on reminders, Kopjex schedules local notifications — a countdown before departure and optional pre-dawn alerts before early drives. These are created and delivered by iOS on your device. No reminder text, schedule, or trip detail is transmitted anywhere. You can revoke notification permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.
06 Analytics and attribution (AppsFlyer)
Kopjex includes one analytics SDK: AppsFlyer. We use it to measure app installs and marketing attribution — that is, to understand which campaign or channel an install came from, and how the app performs in aggregate.
AppsFlyer receives a limited set of technical and marketing data from your device:
- an AppsFlyer install identifier (AppsFlyer UID) generated for your installation;
- device model, iOS version, and app version;
- language and coarse region;
- install, launch, and session events;
- attribution parameters — campaign, media source, ad set, and ad.
It does not receive any of your content:
- trips, day plans, and target species;
- packing checklists and unlocked trophies;
- journal sightings and their photos;
- ranger conversations, your guide name, and your preferences.
If Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt appears and you choose "Ask App Not to Track", Kopjex does not collect your advertising identifier (IDFA) and AppsFlyer operates without it. You can change that decision at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
AppsFlyer's handling of the data it receives is governed by their own privacy policy: appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy
Beyond AppsFlyer and the AI processing described in section 4, Kopjex contains no advertising SDKs and no other third-party trackers.
07 Children
Kopjex is a general-audience travel-planning tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
08 Your control
We store none of your trip data on our servers, so there is nothing for us to export or erase on request. You are always in control: edit or delete any entry inside the app — including saved sightings and ranger conversations — or uninstall Kopjex to remove everything permanently.
OpenAI processes only what you actively submit to an AI feature; if you would rather share nothing, simply don't use the Scout features. You can decline or revoke app tracking at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, which stops Kopjex from collecting your advertising identifier.
09 Updates to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will revise the text and update the "Last updated" year above. Continued use after a change means the revised policy applies.
Write to us — we read everything.
